PC Requirements (Estimate): What to Prepare

5 min read

GTA 6 doesn't have an announced PC version yet, so there are no official requirements. Here's what can be speculated based on Rockstar's track record.

Important notice: as of today, Rockstar has not announced a PC version of GTA 6, and as a result there's no official system requirements list. Any "GTA 6 PC requirements" you find out there was put together by third parties based on comparisons with previous games — it's not data released by the company.

Why there are no official requirements yet

System requirements are usually only released close to a version's actual launch — since there isn't even confirmation that a PC version will exist, let alone a target date, it's technically impossible for real official requirements to be circulating right now.

What Rockstar's recent track record suggests

The company's two most recent PC releases give a hint of its hardware demand pattern:

  • GTA V (PC, 2015) — relatively light for its time, but scaled well with more powerful hardware at high settings.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC, 2019) — much heavier, with an explicit SSD recommendation for better performance and GPU/CPU requirements significantly above GTA V's.

This progression suggests that GTA 6, with an even bigger graphical leap shown in the trailers and a larger, denser world (~125 km², six regions), will likely demand relatively robust hardware to run at high settings — but this is community extrapolation, not a real requirement.

The likely timeline until a PC version exists

Comparing the real gap between console and PC launch for Rockstar's two previous games — 19 months for GTA V (which involved a console generation transition) and 13 months for Red Dead Redemption 2 (without that transition) — a reasonable expectation for GTA 6, which launches within the current generation with no transition in between, is something close to 13 months after November 19, 2026, i.e., around the end of 2027. Again: this is an inference based on historical pattern, not a confirmed date.

How to prepare cautiously

  1. Don't buy hardware specifically "to run GTA 6" before official requirements exist — you'd be buying blind.
  2. Follow official Rockstar/Take-Two announcements about an eventual PC version — historically they come well after the console launch, not before or alongside it.
  3. Use as a general reference a PC that already runs today's most demanding games well (not GTA 6 specifically, since there's no real benchmark for it yet).
  4. Be skeptical of any "leaked requirements" list — none of them have verified credibility so far.

Frequently asked questions

When should Rockstar announce the PC version? There's no date — historically the company announces the PC version months after the console launch, never before.

Will GTA 6 require an SSD on PC, like RDR2 recommends? It's a reasonable possibility given the pattern of recent AAA open-world releases, but there's no confirmation — treat it as speculation.

Is there a reliable "leaked" requirements list? No, none has emerged with independent verification so far.

Is it worth waiting for the PC version instead of buying on console? It depends entirely on your platform preference — the main campaign should be identical, but the historical wait for PC exceeds a year.
