On the GTA 6: Ultimate Edition page of New Zealand's PlayStation Store, the content line now reads "Drug Use, Graphic Violence, Offensive Language, Sex Scenes," under a Restricted 18 rating. It is the first time the series has carried that descriptor in those words. The find dates to October 2, 2026 and was reported by VGTimes, gHacks and Vice, which is where everything below comes from.
What the rating says
In the United States, the ESRB rated the game M (Mature 17+). According to gHacks and Vice, the descriptors are blood and gore, intense violence, mature humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol, plus the in-game purchases notice. In the UK, gHacks reports PEGI 18. In Australia and New Zealand, the PlayStation stores carry the phrase "sex scenes," which is the textual novelty.
Vice makes a point worth keeping in mind: final ESRB ratings usually only arrive when a game is close to release, which fits the November 19 date.
Did the game change, or just the wording?
The sources diverge on one detail, and it matters. For VGTimes, GTA V's listing on the same store said "Sexual Material," something vague, while GTA 6's says "Sex Scenes" and also mentions nudity. gHacks and Vice instead say GTA V's Australian/New Zealand listing carried just "Sex," without "scenes." We could not open the store pages to settle it. What all three pages agree on is that the word "scenes" is new.
Vice is careful about what that proves: per the article, "the new wording alone doesn't confirm that GTA 6 will be more explicit," since the difference may reflect current rating terminology. gHacks reminds readers that GTA V, despite its leaner listing, had at least one scripted sex scene. And GTA 6's ESRB descriptors are the same as GTA V's, according to Vice.
Our reading is that what can be said safely is much less than the headlines suggest: the game will have scenes of a sexual nature (which the trailers, with intimate moments between Jason and Lucia, already hinted at), and the rating is the highest tier in each region. As for how explicit it gets, no source has that information.
The new art and the magazine
VGTimes pairs the story with another: Rockstar reportedly produced the cover of LOVE magazine's Issue 27, with Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval in a fashion-magazine style and the tagline "America's Most Wanted," due on newsstands October 5. Of the pages we opened, only VGTimes carries this, so treat it as attributed to them until Rockstar or the magazine confirms it. The same piece cites, from the New Zealand listing, Ultimate Edition features such as PS5 Pro enhancements, offline play and Remote Play. To understand what differs between editions, see Standard vs. Ultimate.
The purchases label that raised eyebrows
gHacks flags another inconsistency: Rockstar has said the game will have no "monetizations," yet the in-game purchases notice appears on store pages. The company has not explained the gap. The hypothesis gHacks itself offers is that the label relates to the Ultimate Edition's extra content, such as cosmetics and missions. That is the outlet's guess, not something confirmed.
And in Brazil?
None of the sources we read covers Brazil's age classification. We found nothing on the Ministry of Justice's rating (ClassInd) for GTA 6 on the pages we opened, so we will not invent an age tier. Until that rating comes out, the only reference is other countries' classifications.
What is still missing
In the sources we read, the ESRB's detailed summary, which usually describes specific scenes, has not been published, and Rockstar has not commented. When the summary lands, it is what will say what actually appears on screen.
