Mbappé scored both of Real Madrid's goals in a 2-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday, October 25, at Spotify Camp Nou, with Raphinha pulling one back. Behind the players, the pitchside LED boards kept flashing the same message throughout the broadcast: the Grand Theft Auto VI logo and the words "Coming November 19."
No trailer, no characters, no footage. Just the name and the date, which at this point is enough. It was the first Clásico of the La Liga season, in matchday 10, according to Brazilian trade site Portal Publicitário, and fans were posting photos and clips of the boards before half-time. Khel Now quotes the GTA 6 Countdown account sharing the line: "Rockstar is now marketing GTA 6 during El Clásico, in the match between Real Madrid and Barcelona."
How many people actually saw it
The figure doing the rounds is 650 million viewers. Beebom and Khel Now both use it without a clear source; Khel Now credits "some of the latest football reports." Portal Publicitário is the only outlet we read that says where it comes from: it's an estimate by Spanish site Vandal, not Rockstar data and not audience measurement.
Our take: treat that number as a ceiling, not an audience. "Hundreds of millions" estimates for the Clásico usually add up potential reach across every country carrying the broadcast, not people watching live at the same moment. Inside the stadium the figure is more concrete: about 63,000 fans, per Khel Now.
Vandal, again according to Portal Publicitário, called it Rockstar's biggest campaign in Spain so far. One important caveat: as of the articles we read, Rockstar hadn't released any official video of the activation. What's circulating comes from broadcast stills and fan photos.
What changes: the campaign is no longer just about Miami
Until now, nearly all of GTA 6's physical advertising had one address: Miami, the real city behind Vice City. The Clásico is the first major piece outside the United States, and in a sport that isn't exactly the core of Rockstar's American audience. We read it as the campaign changing scale in the final month: fewer inside jokes for people who know Miami, more release date in front of people who never thought about buying the game.
For context, here's the map of what has shown up so far, with the figures the sources published:
| Where | What | Price or detail | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami Beach | "VI" and "Vice City" logos on beach umbrellas and loungers, without the Grand Theft Auto name | $3 million; approved 4-3; October 15 through end of 2026 | Vandal |
| Kaseya Center (Miami Heat arena) | "Welcome to Vice City" rooftop sign | $975,000 for seven months | VidaExtra |
| City of Miami | Up to six billboards | $1.2 million | VidaExtra |
| Kaseya Center | Real-life Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell in the arena | October | Beebom, Khel Now |
| NBA | "A Night in Vice City," Heat vs Bucks | November 18, the day before launch | Beebom |
| Barcelona | El Clásico LED boards | October 25 | Beebom, Khel Now, Portal Publicitário |
Portal Publicitário also lists murals in Miami, New York and Paris plus a Spotify partnership, without figures. We've covered several of these in detail: Burger Shot and Cluckin' Bell at the Heat's arena, the Miami Heat theme night and the first TV spot, which aired during the NBA.
Adding up just the three Miami line items with public prices gets you to roughly $5.2 million. That's our math, and it's a floor. VidaExtra says Rockstar is prepared to spend at least $150 million on the campaign, but doesn't say where that figure comes from, so it stays in the speculation column.
Not everyone in Miami was on board
The same campaign that walked into Camp Nou ran into resistance at home. In Miami Beach, commissioner David Suárez voted no and said he didn't want to see the city's brand tied to the game, according to Vandal's account; Miami-Dade County Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stultz also opposed it publicly. At the county level, the most ambitious plan, dressing Miami International Airport, PortMiami and Metromover stations up as Vice City, went to a commission vote on October 20, with commissioner René García among its critics. We couldn't find the outcome of that vote in the sources we read; background is in our piece on the Miami-Dade vote.
To us, the contrast says something about the strategy. At a football stadium, Rockstar bought space like any advertiser and showed only a name and a date, nothing that could bother anyone. In Miami, where the whole joke is turning the city into Vice City, every banner became a political fight.
What about Brazil?
So far, none of the sources we read mention any physical GTA 6 activation in Brazil, and Rockstar hasn't announced anything like it there. What reaches Brazilian fans for now is the indirect effect, for anyone who caught the match on TV or saw the photos going around social media.
If you haven't bought it yet, the dates that matter haven't changed: launch on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, no PC version announced, and digital pre-loading from November 12.
