One day. That is the gap between GTA 6's launch on November 19 and the deadline The Game Awards published in its own FAQ: the game must be on sale by Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9 p.m. Pacific. In practice, GTA 6 enters the 2026 race with a margin that cannot absorb a single delay.
What the official FAQ says
The dates we checked on The Game Awards page:
- Ceremony: Thursday, December 10, 2026, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. The opening act starts at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT). By our conversion that is 9:30 p.m. in Brasília, since in December the gap to New York is two hours.
- Fan voting: closes Wednesday, December 9, at 6 p.m. PT.
- Eligibility cutoff: the game must be commercially available by November 20, 9 p.m. PT.
- Players’ Voice (the fan-voted category): a separate deadline, November 30.
- Entry: there is no submission process and no fee. The jury decides what deserves a nomination.
The FAQ does not explain how Players’ Voice works beyond its release deadline. It also never mentions GTA 6; the math is ours, based on the game's official date.
Eligible is not nominated
The weak spot is the award's internal calendar. An analysis from GTA Intel, citing juror Alanah Pearce, notes that in last year's edition the jury's first round of nominations closed November 4 and final votes were due November 24. If the pattern repeats, GTA 6 would arrive after the first round and only days before the final vote. Pearce sums up the doubt: “How could anyone finish the game in time?”
The same analysis points out that the jury accounts for 90% of the result and the public for 10%, and that only jurors nominate. One caveat: the piece says the 2026 rules had not been published when it was written, and works from the assumption that the cutoff falls on the third Friday of November, which is the 20th. The FAQ we opened confirms exactly that date, so the assumption held. What remains open, per the same analysis, is whether Rockstar will send early codes to press and jurors or hold an embargo; in the pages we read, the company has announced nothing.
VGTimes, for its part, speculates that GTA 6 could compete for Game of the Year, direction, narrative, art, music, audio, performance and action, based on last year's categories. That is the outlet's list of possibilities, not a confirmed nomination: nominees have not been announced.
What about other awards?
If The Game Awards is a squeeze, there are other windows. GTA Intel reports that the 2027 BAFTA Games Awards cover games released through November 19, 2026, which makes GTA 6's launch day the last eligible day. BAFTA nominations are due March 11, 2027, with the ceremony on April 14, 2027, and the D.I.C.E. Awards, which cover all 2026 releases, announce winners on February 18, 2027. We did not check those dates on the awards' own pages; they come only from GTA Intel.
If you are following awards season, we already covered how GTA 6 missed the 2026 Golden Joystick and what is left on the calendar.
What nobody has confirmed
In the sources we read, nothing guarantees Rockstar will give the jury the game before launch. We also found no statement from the company or the award's organizers about GTA 6 specifically.
Our read
The likeliest outcome, looking only at the calendar, is an eligible game with few nominations: the cutoff rule favors a November 19 launch, but the jury's nomination window does not. That could change if jurors get a build early, which nobody has confirmed. For players in Brazil the practical part is just the date: the ceremony airs on the night of December 10, Brasília time, so you can catch the result after a few weeks of playing.
