A gator figure about six inches tall, a shot glass shaped like a manatee and a poster map of Leonida add up to $400. The game is not in the box. On Thursday (September 24), Rockstar opened pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI: The Goodtime State — Vice City Collection, and the price is the part that draws the eye.

What is in the box

Kotaku, TechTudo and GameHall count 11 items:

  • a Macca the Gator figure (Macca is the gator from Leonida's fictional TV show), roughly 6 inches tall, with a base that opens for storage;
  • Oakley Frogskins sunglasses (GameHall mentions Prizm Sapphire lenses);
  • a Leonida Keys crossbody bag with YKK hardware;
  • a New Era 9FORTY cap;
  • a Macca magnetic mirror;
  • a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass;
  • a collectible Vice City swizzle spoon;
  • a razor-blade keychain;
  • enamel pins in a metal tin;
  • stickers in a small pouch;
  • a double-sided souvenir poster with a map of Leonida.

Vandal says 12. Going by its list, that is a counting difference: it lists the character illustrations on the back of the poster as a separate item, which suggests the box itself is the same. The fabric accessory works the same way: Vandal calls it a black-and-pink ripstop fanny pack, Kotaku a crossbody bag.

The price tag

It is $399.99 before shipping, and GameHall notes the box does not qualify for free shipping. At the exchange rate the site used, that is over R$2,000 in Brazil, before taxes. For scale: the Standard edition of GTA 6 costs R$449.90 there, so the box alone runs to more than four times the price of the base game. Who can buy it

It is sold only through Rockstar's own store, "while supplies last", and Vandal reports a limit of one box per person. Delivery starts on November 19, launch day. Shipping is charged separately and varies by country, and extra duties may apply outside the United States and the United Kingdom.

For readers in Brazil, the detail that matters comes from TechTudo: the company has not said whether the product will reach Latin America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, and for now Brazil is left out.

The box had already leaked

The announcement came hours after the box surfaced behind the scenes of Rockstar's own store. The same day, modder Razed posted API links to dozens of unannounced products on GTAForums, and RockstarINTEL, in a piece from September 24 published at 1 p.m. London time, noted that the items were not yet live. VGTimes counts about 55 products: 15 GTA 6 T-shirts, 9 tied to in-game brands (Burger Shot, Narcos and Macca), 5 Rockstar tees, 14 caps and hats, and 11 assorted items including a keychain, a Zippo lighter, a money clip, tote bags and sports gear.

The Vice City Collection was in that list, and according to VGTimes the entry pointed to a limit of one per customer, a rule Rockstar later confirmed. The rest of the merchandise is still unannounced, with no price and no date, in the sources we checked.
