On November 19, Sony puts a new headset on shelves, the PlayStation Pulse. The date doesn't take much detective work: it's launch day for GTA 6, the game Sony itself is marketing with a "Plays Best on PS5" badge. Sony hasn't said the timing is deliberate; gagadget put it neatly: it hasn't been said, "but it looks it."

The catch for readers outside the big markets is the country list. According to the update Joe Bentley, Sony Interactive Entertainment's VP of Engineering, posted on the PlayStation Blog, as detailed by tbreak, the Pulse launches first in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the UK, Israel, Ukraine and most of Western and Northern Europe. For everywhere else, the release date will be "announced at a later date." Brazil and Latin America don't show up in any of the reports we read.

What it might cost in Brazil

There's no Brazilian price, and no date. What we can offer is a yardstick, and it's ours, not Sony's. The Pulse Elite, the line's previous headset, cost $150 in the US (a figure Gizmodo recalls) and reached Brazil in June 2024 at R$ 999.90, according to Hardware.com.br. That works out to roughly R$ 6.67 for every dollar of the US price. Apply the same ratio to the Pulse and you land somewhere around R$ 670.

Treat that as a reference point with every caveat attached: the exchange rate has moved since 2024, import taxes and pricing strategy vary by product, and Sony may simply not bring this model to Brazil. If it does, going by the Pulse Elite's track record (global announcement first, Brazil months later), it most likely won't be in time for November 19.

What's different from the Pulse Elite

The Pulse keeps the best of the Elite and drops what made it pricier. Based on the descriptions from tbreak and Gizmodo:

  • Planar magnetic drivers, the same technology as the Elite, now larger, with four magnets each, for fuller bass;
  • an integrated mic with AI noise rejection, without the Elite's retractable boom;
  • rotating earcups that lie flat, for a backpack or for resting around your neck;
  • PlayStation Link through the bundled USB-C adapter, with lossless, low-latency audio, plus simultaneous Bluetooth;
  • works with PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac.

The redesign has a backstory. Gizmodo's Kyle Barr recalled that his main complaint in his 2024 Pulse Elite review was comfort: big earcups that left an air pocket around the ear and didn't fold. In the announcement, Bentley says the Pulse was designed for "lasting comfort." The sources don't give battery life or weight.

The premium model, the Pulse Edge, is due in early 2027 and has no price yet. It adds active noise cancellation (the first PlayStation headset with it, per Gizmodo), a detachable boom mic, a carrying case, a 3.5mm jack, game/chat balance on PS5 and twice the magnets per driver.

Where GTA 6 comes in

The link is marketing, and it's a strong one. GamingBible notes that GTA 6's PlayStation Store listing mentions PS5 Pro optimization, fast loading, haptic feedback, the DualSense speaker, adaptive triggers and Tempest 3D audio. That's exactly the ecosystem Sony wants to sell alongside the game, as it already did with the limited-edition GTA 6 DualSense, and that Rockstar reinforced by saying the trailers were captured on a PS5.

Our read is that none of this means GTA 6's audio depends on the headset: Tempest 3D works with any headphones on PS5, and the game also launches on Xbox Series X|S the same day. The Pulse is a convenient accessory for anyone without a headset, not a requirement.

November 19 will be a busy day for Sony, too. gagadget points out that the black PS5 Digital Edition arrives on the same date, though only in Japan for now, and that the Pulse Elevate speakers ship a week earlier, on November 12.

Worth waiting for?

For players in Brazil, the practical answer is: don't plan your GTA 6 launch around the Pulse. With no local date or price, anyone who wants an official headset for November 19 will be choosing among the models already released in the country, such as the Pulse Elite, which arrived there in 2024. We'll update once Sony announces the remaining markets.
