"That's going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time." That is how Devon Pritchard, president of Nintendo of America, answered the question people have been asking since the Switch 2 was unveiled: is GTA 6 coming to Nintendo's console? The answer came in a Variety interview, picked up on October 9 and 10, 2026 by Insider Gaming, VGTimes and GTA BOOM.
In the sources we read, it is the first time a top Nintendo executive has been asked about this in public. And the answer is deliberately empty: not a yes, not a no.
What she actually said
The central line is the one above, which all three outlets quote identically. Pritchard added that the Switch 2 is still early in its life ("we're just at the beginning of seeing what Nintendo Switch 2 can do") and that Nintendo wants to offer a diversity of experiences on the system. According to Insider Gaming, she stressed that the Nintendo brand has always been for all ages.
VGTimes notes that the interview contained no announcement. The practical takeaway: Nintendo is not the one deciding. Whether a third-party game gets ported is up to the studio and the publisher, which is exactly what she is saying.
Where the sources differ
There is one difference in reading worth separating out. GTA BOOM says Pritchard "acknowledged" the Switch 2 is capable of running an M-rated game, and that she called the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake the one high-profile title "brave enough" to launch in November against GTA 6. Insider Gaming, which we read in full, mentions neither point, and neither does VGTimes. Since we could not open the original Variety interview, we treat those two passages as attributed to GTA BOOM alone, without cross-confirmation.
The same GTA BOOM piece says the console has passed 23 million units sold since June 2025 and cites Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on Switch 2 this fall as proof the hardware can handle big action games. Those are also single-source figures and examples.
What Rockstar has already done on Nintendo
The history helps gauge how open the door is. VGTimes points out that the original Switch got GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition and L.A. Noire, and that Red Dead Redemption received a dedicated Switch 2 version in December 2025. GTA BOOM notes the flip side: GTA IV, GTA V, Red Dead Redemption 2, Max Payne and Midnight Club have never shipped on a Nintendo console. So Rockstar has accepted the platform before, but never with a flagship release on day one.
That contrast fits what the site has already published. A former Rockstar developer said a Switch 2 version makes little sense for the GTA audience and that a phone would be likelier (see Ex-Rockstar: GTA 6 on phones yes, on Switch 2 no). Wccftech, which covered those remarks, disagrees with part of the reasoning: it considers the idea that Nintendo's audience doesn't buy GTA outdated, citing the Trilogy's solid sales, and sees the real obstacle in the Switch 2's CPU against the game's simulation. That is one writer's opinion, not technical data.
What is still unknown
In the sources we read:
- No version has been announced. GTA 6 is set for November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has said nothing about the Switch 2.
- No date or extra platform is confirmed. PC is also still unannounced, as our coverage shows in GTA 6 may not reach PC before 2027-2028.
- Rumors exist, but they are not official. GTA BOOM cites insider Nash Weedle, who said Rockstar has reportedly overcome the technical hurdles with help from port specialists, but that the version "isn't ready yet and won't arrive this year." At the other end, YouTuber Reece "Kiwi Talkz" Reilly says there will be no GTA 6 on Switch 2 at launch. Two bets, neither confirmed.
And for Brazilian players?
For players here, the practical question is a different one: if the game does reach the Switch 2 someday, it will be well after the November 19 launch. Anyone who wants to play on day one needs a PS5 or an Xbox Series console. Price and availability in reais for any future version do not exist; what exists is the pre-order for the current editions, which we follow in Pre-orders have started: how to secure yours.
Our take
This is our interpretation, not reporting. An answer like Pritchard's is what you would expect from any executive when the game belongs to someone else: she cannot promise on Rockstar's behalf, and she does not want to rule out a potential hit on her platform. The absence of a denial does not turn into a confirmation either. What really changed since last week is only that the question was put to the person running Nintendo, and she passed the ball back. The next concrete signal has to come from Take-Two or Rockstar, and so far neither has said a word.
