Jason and Lucia armed in a diner. The two of them playing pool in a bar. Black-and-white portraits. That is the visual package LOVE magazine's issue 27 delivered for GTA 6, along with an interview with two of Rockstar's narrative leads. The issue costs €25, was sold in pre-order through the distributor KD Presse's site and, according to Beebom, sold out within minutes of opening.

A warning first: this is not material published by Rockstar. We checked the official hub rockstargames.com/VI today and it lists no October news; the latest item is the Vice City Collection pre-order, from September 24. What follows is what the press read in the magazine, and it is attributed that way.

The images

Insider Gaming describes four captures: Jason and Lucia armed in the diner, the couple at a bar's pool table, and two posed shots. Insider also makes an honest comparison: in its view the pictures are “not as electric” as the 12 screenshots Game Informer showed in its issue 382 cover story. The difference is in the details: outfits and hairstyles we hadn't seen yet. Our reading is that the couple's look changes over the course of the story, but none of the sources says that outright.

There is a date discrepancy worth sorting out. Insider Gaming dates its piece October 2; Beebom gives October 5 as the issue's release date. Both can be true: our reading is that the 2nd was the reveal of the images and the pre-sale, and the 5th the magazine's arrival. None of the pages we opened explains it, so treat that as interpretation.

Who spoke

The interview is with Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern, a writer on the game, and Rupert Humphries, senior vice president of narrative. Her surname appears as “Gauvey-Kern” at Beebom and “Galvey-Kern” at Vandal; we went with the first, which is the spelling in most results we saw, but it is a genuine doubt.

On the couple, Beebom records Gauvey-Kern describing them as “vulnerable, tough, flawed, right sometimes, wrong sometimes”. Humphries calls the game's world a “pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity”.

Jason, Lucia and the idea of the American dream

The sources agree on a simple picture. Lucia is the one who pushes ahead: she wants a better life and won't let obstacles block her path. Jason, a former serviceman who turned to crime more by circumstance than by choice, tends to react to what happens around him. Vandal adds that the story is inspired by Bonnie and Clyde; that comparison only showed up there, so it stays attributed to them.

The magazine's “American dream” is down to earth: owning a home, supporting the family, paying off debts, rather than an impossible fortune. Anyone who read our coverage of the Jason and Lucia relationship system will recognize the tone: the pair is designed as complementary opposites.

The world of Leonida

VGTimes's summary of the same interview carries what doesn't appear on the other three pages we opened, so it is attributed to it alone: the team did fieldwork in present-day Florida, in Miami, the Keys and the Everglades, talking to locals, police and criminal groups to capture the contrast between wealth and poverty. VGTimes also says the satire targets conspiracy theories, politics and pop culture with original content rather than recreating real viral moments, and that the developers want a world where life keeps going around the player even outside missions, with random events, pedestrian dialogue and radio. That lines up with what we've already reported on the Florida research team and the Leonida map.

What about Brazil?

In the sources we read there is no price, shipping or word on sales to Brazil. The issue is physical, sold in Europe in euros, and sold out; anyone who only wants the images and quotes will depend on third-party coverage like this. If a digital version or reprint appears, we haven't seen it.

What nobody has shown

In the sources we read there is no full transcript of the interview, no new gameplay mechanic and no new date. The quotes above are the only ones we could check on an open page; the rest is paraphrase from people who had the magazine in hand. When Rockstar publishes something official about the material, we'll update.
