The video showed up in Rockstar's YouTube feed at 13:00 UTC on Thursday, October 15, which is 10 a.m. in Brasília. No countdown, no heads-up on social media: RockstarINTEL called it a "shadowdrop," and Kotaku notes it arrived without any teaser. On Rockstar's own page for the video, the Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer runs 1:29. Press coverage rounds that to 90 seconds.
What Rockstar wrote about it
The official description, quoted by VICE and Shacknews, sets the story in Vice City, USA, and opens with a line that works as a thesis: Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. An easy score goes wrong, the two end up tangled in a criminal conspiracy that spreads across the state of Leonida, and they have to rely on each other to get out alive.
On the picture itself, Rockstar says everything was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. RockstarINTEL and VICE report that it is a standard PS5, not a Pro, and the former says the notice appears at the end of the video. The date hasn't moved: November 19, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Scene by scene, according to the people who watched
None of the pieces we opened comes with a timestamped shot list. What follows is the sum of what each outlet described, with the source next to it, because not everyone saw the same things.
- Jason and the army. He narrates his own past. According to Kotaku, he says he didn't leave the military on the best of terms and that the system has no loans for people like him. VICE sums it up as Jason struggling to find work, and TheGamer quotes him saying he "ran into some trouble" in the army. Kotaku reads the scene as a man pushed toward crime and perhaps looking for a way out. That is the outlet's reading, not something Rockstar confirmed.
- Lucia calling from jail. TheGamer and VICE both describe Lucia, behind bars, phoning Jason. It's where the partnership starts.
- Action. TheGamer lists a montage of the return to Vice City, the pair sitting on top of a car, and Lucia jumping onto a moving plane. Shacknews says she grabs the landing gear. VGTimes adds a robbery and a car chase with the pair trying to shake the police. TMC, the one Brazilian outlet that describes the video in this much detail, mentions tactical break-ins, sniper shootouts, a helicopter chase and getaways along Leonida's highways and beaches.
- Missions we already knew. Dexerto says the trailer revisits missions from An Extended Look, including helicopters carrying part of a bank vault into a building. It's the only one that describes this.
- Supporting cast. TheGamer notes quick appearances by Raul and Cal, whom it calls key story characters.
- The shower scene. Kotaku, TheGamer, VGTimes and TMC all mention an intimate moment between the couple in a shower. Kotaku says it's the first time anything like it has appeared on screen in the game's material, and TheGamer bets it will be the most-paused stretch of the video. Anyone following the age ratings shouldn't be surprised: sex scenes were already listed in the New Zealand rating, and the official page carries an ESRB "Mature" badge with descriptors such as nudity and strong sexual content.
Where the sources disagree
The ankle monitor. TMC describes Lucia under monitoring, with an electronic ankle tag on her foot, and Dexerto says the trailer confirms the earlier ankle-tag rumor. The other pieces we opened don't mention it. Without going through the video frame by frame, we treat it as "two outlets saw it," not as settled fact.
Which trailer this is. Rockstar calls it the Launch Trailer. In the "Watch More" strip on the page, it lists only Trailer 1 (December 4, 2023, 1:31), Trailer 2 (May 6, 2025, 2:47) and An Extended Look (August 27, 2026, 26:48) below it. RockstarINTEL says "Trailer 3" and VICE says "third trailer." It's only a label, but it explains why searches turn up under both names.
Platforms. VGTimes lists PC among the versions. Rockstar, Kotaku, VICE and Hardware.com.br mention only PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Hardware says outright that PC has no official date. We're going with the majority: PC still has no date from Rockstar.
Game or movie? Hardware.com.br describes the video as a cinematic presentation that doesn't show mechanics. "Captured in-game" doesn't mean every scene is playable, since cutscenes run by the engine count too. That distinction is our reading; Rockstar doesn't spell it out.
For readers in Brazil
- Game Over Drive says the video has Brazilian Portuguese subtitles on YouTube, switched on from the player menu. It's the only outlet we read saying so, so check for yourself. The game itself, meanwhile, arrives with subtitles but no Portuguese voice-over.
- Launch is November 19, and digital preloading, per VICE and Game Over Drive, starts November 12. Here's how it works.
- The trailer carries no price in reais, and neither do the Brazilian pieces we read.
What nobody has said yet (in the sources we read)
We found no transcript of the dialogue and no view count for the first hours, which should surface over the next few days. RockstarINTEL thinks this will be the last trailer before launch, and Kotaku expects to see it on TV and in theaters. Rockstar has confirmed neither.
