The giveaway was a line about feeling Atsu's katana strikes through the DualSense. Atsu is the protagonist of Ghost of Yōtei, Sony's feudal Japan adventure — she has nothing to do with Jason, Lucia or Leonida. Even so, a screenshot of an alleged PlayStation France page listing "GTA 6 features on PS5 Pro" made the rounds this week, two weeks before launch.
Short version first: nothing that page promises has been confirmed by Sony or Rockstar. What is official is far less specific, and it's laid out below.
What the listing said
According to GTA Boom and VGTimes, the screenshot surfaced in a Reddit post on r/PS5pro that has since been taken down. The text, attributed to PlayStation's French site, described two PS5 Pro-specific upgrades:
- PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), the console's AI upscaler, for a sharper image on 4K TVs;
- enhanced ray tracing, with better reflections, shadows and lighting.
For the standard PS5, it listed Tempest 3D Audio across Leonida, near-instant loading from the SSD and DualSense haptics. GTA Boom adds that the page said the game doesn't run on PS4 — which was already known. Neither report mentions frame rates, performance modes or resolution targets.
Why so many people smelled a fake
The katana is the obvious reason. Copy pasted from another Sony product page could happen in an internal draft, but combined with everything else, it counts against the listing.
VGTimes rounds up the other red flags raised by the community: users spotted odd details in the image that suggest AI generation, and OpenAI's image verification tool reportedly found signs the file came from the company's tools (the check looks for C2PA metadata and watermarks). OpenAI itself cautions that finding those markers doesn't establish who made an image or whether its content is accurate. Still, a screenshot with AI fingerprints and a paragraph from a different game isn't something to build expectations on.
Our read is that it's most likely fabricated. But since Sony hasn't confirmed or denied anything, the honest label is "unverified."
What Sony and Rockstar have actually confirmed
We opened the official pages to check. GTA 6's PlayStation Store listing — both the US and the Brazilian versions — carries the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge. So the game will get some kind of upgrade on PS5 Pro. Which kind, the page doesn't say: there's no mention of PSSR, ray tracing or performance modes.
The same listing covers the base PS5 features: DualSense vibration and trigger effects, and Tempest 3D Audio. Those two items from the suspect page line up with official information, which may be why the fake looked believable.
The PlayStation Blog post from November 3, written by Tim Turi, is a prep guide: pre-download from November 10, at least 212 GB free, the Ultimate Edition and accessories. It doesn't mention the PS5 Pro either. One clarification: GTA Boom wrote that the post ends with "stay tuned for more" and read that as a hint of a PS5 Pro announcement. On the page we opened, the closing line is different — "We'll have more information on Grand Theft Auto VI as we get closer to November 19." That's a standard sign-off, and it promises nothing about the Pro.
What about 30 fps?
The console performance expectations come from elsewhere — a Brazilian outlet, in fact. In August, Flow Games visited Rockstar North in Edinburgh and reported that, at that stage of development, the game ran at 30 frames per second on consoles. According to the report, studio co-director Rob Nelson said the team still had to evaluate whether a 60 fps option would come at launch or later. The piece has no direct quote from him on the number and doesn't mention the PS5 Pro.
From there, outlets diverged. Notebookcheck recalls that Digital Foundry, in an earlier video, considered 40 fps realistic on PS5 Pro thanks to upscaling. Brazil's Canaltech, in a November 1 piece, says Digital Foundry suggested the game might not even get the Pro Enhanced badge — which the current PlayStation Store listing already contradicts. For now, the badge is the only fact; everything else is analyst estimation.
If you want to know what Rockstar has shown running on a regular console, our story on the trailer captured on a base PS5 explains what it does and doesn't tell us.
Is it worth buying a PS5 Pro for this?
In the US, GTA 6 is $79.99 for the Standard Edition and $99.99 for the Ultimate. In Brazil, where we're based, the PS5 Pro's suggested price has been R$7,499.90 since April 2, when Sony raised prices (it used to be R$6,999.90), according to Tecnoblog. Canaltech notes the lowest price seen in 2026 was R$4,599 and that it sold for R$4,806 during Black Friday 2025 — and warns that RAM and component shortages could push prices up.
Our take: based on what's known today, it makes little sense to upgrade consoles over a badge with no details, let alone a screenshot that quotes another game's katana. Anyone with a PS5 will be playing GTA 6 on the 19th; the Pro's real advantage will only become clear once Sony or Rockstar spell out the upgrades, or when the first technical analyses arrive. Until then, Black Friday at the end of the month is a good time to watch prices without rushing.
Still unknown
In the sources we read, nobody has confirmed:
- what the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" badge actually delivers in GTA 6 (resolution, ray tracing, PSSR);
- whether there will be a 60 fps mode, on PS5 Pro or any console;
- whether the French page ever existed, or was fabricated from start to finish.
Rockstar tends to announce GTA 6 news on Thursdays. As of our check this Thursday, November 5, the latest item on the game's official hub was the pre-load announcement from November 3, which we've already covered.
