If you bought GTA 6 digitally on Xbox, you can start downloading it at 12 a.m. GMT on Tuesday, November 10. That's 7 p.m. Eastern / 4 p.m. Pacific on Monday, November 9, and 9 p.m. on Monday in Brasília. On PS5, the download opens at midnight local time on November 10. Both dates come from a Rockstar Newswire post published Tuesday, November 3, and they replace the schedule that had stood since June: pre-loading had been set for November 12, as we reported at the time.

Two extra days matter for a file this big. Rockstar says the pre-load will require up to 212 GB “depending on your device”, the first official size the company has given.

PS5 and Xbox don't start together

The two consoles follow different rules, which is where most of the confusion comes from. Per the announcement, as reported by Game Rant, RockstarINTEL and Dexerto:

  • PlayStation 5: downloads open at midnight on the 10th in each player's own time zone, the same staggered model used for the launch itself.
  • Xbox Series X|S: downloads open simultaneously worldwide at 12 a.m. GMT on the 10th.

For Brazil, where this site's core audience lives, the Xbox rule pulls things into Monday evening. Our own conversion from 12 a.m. GMT (Brazil has had no daylight saving time since 2019):

Where you areXbox Series X|SPS5
Brasília time (São Paulo, Rio, South, Northeast)9 p.m., Nov 912 a.m., Nov 10
Fernando de Noronha10 p.m., Nov 912 a.m., Nov 10 (local)
Manaus, Cuiabá, Campo Grande, Porto Velho, Boa Vista8 p.m., Nov 912 a.m., Nov 10 (local)
Acre7 p.m., Nov 912 a.m., Nov 10 (local)

Launch day itself hasn't moved. The game unlocks at midnight on November 19; in Brasília that's 3 a.m. UTC, according to the Brazilian PlayStation Store listing cited by the site Overdrive. Pre-loading doesn't let you play early. It just puts the files on your console, and the campaign stays locked until launch. For the full country-by-country unlock schedule, see our time zone calendar.

From 210 to 212 GB

The official figure settles a number that had been floating around. In late October, the PlayStation Game Size account, which tracks PlayStation Store data, pointed to roughly 210 GB for the PS5 version. Rockstar wasn't confirming anything then, and we covered the leak with that caveat. The 2 GB gap is small, and the “up to” in Rockstar's wording suggests the size varies by console. There's no per-platform breakdown.

For scale, RockstarINTEL puts GTA 6 at almost twice the size of Red Dead Redemption 2, the studio's previous open world.

Our take: treat 212 GB as a floor, not a ceiling. None of the sources we read mention a day-one patch, but games of this size usually get one, and anyone who leaves exactly enough room may end up deleting something at midnight on the 19th.

What about the boxed version?

GTA 6's physical release has no disc, just a download code, and the announcement confirms those boxes reach retailers from November 12 on both consoles. In practice, box buyers go through the same process as digital ones: redeem the code, download the same 212 GB, only with two or three fewer days of head start than people who bought straight from the console store.

Prices are unchanged: $79.99 for Standard and around $100 for the Ultimate Edition, per Game Rant (R$ 449.90 and R$ 549.90 on Brazil's digital stores). The edition differences are in our Standard vs Ultimate breakdown.

A map of Leonida, free or for 99 cents

The same post includes a giveaway few people saw coming. On launch day, November 19, the official GTA 6 site will offer a free download of a printable cover-art poster and a map of Leonida. Shortly after launch, the Rockstar Store will sell a double-sided physical version for $0.99, or include it as a free gift with any order.

The outlets describe this slightly differently. Dexerto and RockstarINTEL call it a “physical map”; VGTimes calls it a double-sided poster with the cover art and the map. Put together, it looks like a single piece with the cover on one side and the map on the other. That's our reading: the official text we were able to access doesn't describe each side.

And the map isn't in the box. Physical copies are only a code, so anyone who wants the paper version has to go through the Rockstar Store. If you want a head start before the official map drops, our guide to Leonida's regions collects everything shown so far.

Still unclear

In the sources we read, three questions went unanswered:

  • Shipping. Rockstar hasn't said which countries the 99-cent poster ships to, or what shipping costs. The printable version at least sidesteps that.
  • Size per console. “Up to 212 GB” doesn't separate PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
  • Day-one patch. Neither its existence nor its size has been confirmed.

If you bought digitally, the practical advice holds: clear more space than announced and switch on automatic downloads before Monday night (Xbox) or Tuesday at midnight (PS5).
